Michael Bowler, 1837–…?>
- Name
- Michael /Bowler/
Birth
|
Note: Marriage said he was from Lisdorgan Marriage said he was from Lisdorgan but this from John Durkin... There are no Bowlers in Lisdorgan recorded in Griffiths or 1901/1911 censuses but there are Hanifans in both sets of records. Joanna is possibly/likely to be the daughter of Thomas Hanifan (1800-1873 & Mary (Rourke??) Hanifan (1801-1877). Another hint comes from Michael's family - his first three sons are respectively John, Thomas and Michael which appears to exactly follow the traditional naming custom. So Thomas is named after his maternal grandfather. This series would also indicate that Michael’s father was a John and Griffiths Valuation (c1852) does indeed have a John Bowler in Ullagha as a tenant farmer of Lord Ventry. When I next visit the Valuation Office I will be able to check if/when Michael took over the tenancy from John. |
