Sarah incorrectly specifies her Father as William Williams when it was actually Alfred Williams. I am confident it was Alfred Williams as he appears on her first marriage cert and on her own birth cert. I suspect she made the mistake because she never knew her real father, he died a few months after she was born, her mother remarried. Also she was really 30 not 28 :) |

Note
|
She was born in Workington in 1896 and had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. She was the baby of the family. The family originally lived in Durham in the North East but moved to Workington around 1888. Her dad died from TB when she was just 2 months old She married my Grandad in 1915 in Workington. She was 19 and my Grandad 27. My dad was born 4 months later A son William was born 19 Aug 1920. No father is given on the birth certificate (It couldn't be my Grandad as he died almost a year and half earlier) My grandma then remarried in 1926 in Swansea to my dads step dad and finally died in 1963 in Basingstoke. I did wonder who the father of her last baby was. Could it have been my dads step father? I think it is a possibility and that might be why she came down south with him. But why didn't they keep the baby in that case. They were married in Swansea Register Office. Why Swansea? 1926 was the year of the General Strike in England so I guess it might have been hard to find work. |
