Marriage
Sarah incorrectly specifies her Father as William Williams when it was actually Alfred Williams. I am confident it was Alfred Williams as he appears on her first marriage cert and on her own birth cert. I suspect she made the mistake because she never knew her real father, he died a few months after she was born, her mother remarried. Also she was really 30 not 28 :)
Death
The Late Mrs F W Fisher The funeral service at St Michaels Church Basingstoke on Monday for Mrs Sarah Emma Fisher was folowed by internment at Worting Road Cemetary. Mrs Fisher who was 67 died at her home 10 George Street on the previous Thursday. She was a native of Workington Cumberland and spent the early part of her life in business in Newcastle on Tyne. She and Mr Fisher whom she married after the death of her first husband came south to Basingstoke in 1926. Family mourners who attended the funeral were Mr F W Fisher (husband) Mr Thomas Doggart (son) Mr and Mrs Robins (Brother in law and sister) Mr E W Fisher (brother in law) Representatives of the local Post Office Engineering staff also attended Funeral by Messers Alexander and Dry
Note
She was born in Workington in 1896 and had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. She was the baby of the family. The family originally lived in Durham in the North East but moved to Workington around 1888. Her dad died from TB when she was just 2 months old Her mum remarried a year later and had 1 child with the new father. She married my Grandad in 1915 in Workington. She was 19 and my Grandad 27. My dad was born 4 months later A son William was born 1 year later (Dec 1916) but died Feb 1917 aged just 2 months. A daughter Sarah was born 7 Jan 1918 but died from the Flu 6 Mar 1919 aged 14 months A daughter Margaret was born 5 Mar 1919 (just the day before Sarah died) and died 10 Mar 1919 age 5 days. My Grandad died from the Flu and Pneumonia 10 Mar 1919 the same day as Margaret died . He was ill in hospital for a few weeks. Sarah's burial records show she was buried on the 10th Mar which was the day my grandad died. Margaret was buried the day after in the same grave. My Grandad buried on 14th Mar in same grave as his mum and dad. A son William was born 19 Aug 1920. No father is given on the birth certificate (It couldn't be my Grandad as he died almost a year and half earlier) The baby was born in the nearby town of Cockermouth and was obviously kept secret from relatives. My grandma then remarried in 1926 in Swansea to my dads step dad and finally died in 1963 in Basingstoke. I did wonder who the father of her last baby was. Could it have been my dads step father? I think it is a possibility and that might be why she came down south with him. But why didn't they keep the baby in that case. They were married in Swansea Register Office. Why Swansea? My dad would have been about 11 when they married. I wonder if he went to the wedding. 1926 was the year of the General Strike in England so I guess it might have been hard to find work.
