I know Thomas served in the Border reg and left before the war started.
Presumably he joined again?
Another fact in favour of this being hin is that I can't find him in the UK, Scottish or Irish death indexes. Which is what you would expect if he died in France.

Note

Missing from 1901 census because he had joined the Army and was in South Africa. He later moved on to India where he spent 4 years returning home in December 1906.

On the 1911 census Thomas is staying with his brother Arthur and Arthurs wife at Moor Row which is just south of Whitehaven and is the site of an Iron Ore mine at which they were working.

Thomas's wife is not with them. She is staying with her child at his Dads place, 27 Derwent Street in Workington .

When I looked up marriage indexes it shows 2 very similar for Thomas, one for a Thomas Aikens N Doggart and one for a Thomas Norris A Doggart. Both are to the same woman on the same date so I assume just a clerical error
