Occupation
Great improvements were made to the town while he was in office. Bridge over the river was widened; his name is on a stone on the bridge. Very keen golfer and very keen member of the Masonic Lodge. Had a shop at 77 High Street (The Corner Shop), now Clydesdale Bank. Retired and lived at Summerbank, William Street. His portrait hung in the council chambers. (Information from a local postman, via Stewartry District Council sub office). This portrait was given to me (Russell Doggart) on a visit to the town.
