I am starting to think Frank may have played in goal for Workington. Joseph Doggart thinks he did

But Norman Doggart (Dr Rock) said his grandfather played in goal for Workington. So that wouldn't be him.

2018: Changed mind again. It was Arthur Doggart, Dr Rocks grandad who played in goal

I haven't put this in as a proper Sourced date because I am unsure about it. Other people do have this as a fact so it probably is. I know Thomas served in the Border reg and left before the war started. Presumably he joined again? Another fact in favour of this being hin is that I can't find him in the UK, Scottish or Irish death indexes. Which is what you would expect if he died in France.

Death

Found in Oct-Dec 1957 Death Indexes age 75 Cockermouth which matches perfectly. However I have a letter from cousin Adam Doggart saying he was alive in 1983

Note

Still alive 1983 according to letter from Adam Doggart which must be wrong given as wintess to death of margaret doggart (neice) 1911 census gives him as a border in Whitehaven age 29 with wife Sarah Jane and son John and (probably) his brother Thomas

Note

Charlie Doggart in Australia, Alexanders grandson says he remembers a brother of Alexander being a tall gentleman who kept goal for the local football team, he was a regular church goer and he had a son Frank who was in the Scout movement and was also in the army as a pay sergeant.

This would match Arthur I think
