Note: Scone is mentioned in William Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth (Act 2, Scene 4), as a place for coronation of Macbeth after he kills the former King, his cousin Duncan. It is also the last word of the play: "So, thanks to all at once and to each one / Whom we invite to see us crown'd at Scone."

Note: Great improvements were made to the town while he was in office. Bridge over the river was widened; his name is on a stone on the bridge. Very keen golfer and very keen member of the Masonic Lodge. Had a shop at 77 High Street (The Corner Shop), now Clydesdale Bank. Retired and lived at Summerbank, William Street. His portrait hung in the council chambers.
